German Shorthaired Pointer dog photography in Massachusetts is always a joy, especially when it includes both studio and coastal portraits like Ada’s session.
Ada’s mom Lauren, wanted some updated artwork for her pet food and supply store “Everything But the Dog” in Reading, Massachusetts. We thought the best way to capture Ada’s personality would be with both a studio session at my Wakefield, Massachusetts studio, as well as a location session at Winter Island in Salem Massachusetts.
Ada is a German short haired pointer who just turned 5, though you wouldn’t know it! She is your typical GSP who loves to be busy! She loved catching tennis balls during her studio session and posing for some treats! Her mom, as owner of Everything But the Dog, had no shortage of treats! We captured some branding photos with Lauren as well!
German Shorthaired Pointers are known for their athleticism, intelligence, and expressive eyes. Photographing a German Shorthaired Pointer in Massachusetts often means capturing both energy and elegance in the same session. Whether we’re working in the studio in Wakefield or heading to the beaches of the North Shore, GSPs bring personality to every frame.
Their sleek coats photograph beautifully in both natural outdoor light and controlled studio lighting. Because they are highly active sporting dogs, sessions are designed to allow movement, play, and interaction, which results in images that feel authentic and full of life.
If you’re considering German Shorthaired Pointer dog photography in Massachusetts, choosing a photographer who understands the breed’s temperament makes all the difference.
We started off with a studio session for Ava where she had fun with bubbles and peanut butter. Studio session in Massachusetts are a great way to celebrate your dog in a controlled environment.

For part two of Ada’s portrait session we headed to Winter Island in Salem Massachusetts. This beautiful coastal site features walking paths that overlook the ocean, a beautiful New England Lighthouse and a small pebbly beach area. Sunsets at Winter Island are spectacular! Ava loved exploring the beach and walking paths and following all of the scents! Ada wrapped up with a quick dip in the ocean! Location sessions in Massachusetts offer us the ability to explore many different kinds of backdrops and match them to the dog’s personality.

After the sessions I headed home to retouch the final images and prepare a gallery for Lauren to review! It was hard narrowing them down to select the wall art piece for her store, but she chose the one below of Ada so elegantly posing on the rocks! We also selected one of my dog Willow! Lauren worked with custom framer Jeff Schilling at The Frame Shack in Wakefield, Massachusetts and in a few short weeks her wall art was complete!
I picked up the finished wall art from The Frame Shack and headed over to Lauren’s store, Everything But the Dog in Reading, Massachusetts for a complimentary installation of her wall art!
