| I’ve been testing a new holiday setup for a few weeks now, with Willow, the Lucky 7 dogs, and most recently, with six Wild Ones puppies who came in for their Northeast Canine headshots. Antique steamer trunk, real tree. I built in extra time for that one, and expected some chaos. I got their headshots, individual holiday portraits, and group shots, every look I wanted, in under forty minutes. ![]() While that is not normal for six regular puppies, it is normal for six puppies already deep into training as future mobility service dogs for veterans and first responders through Northeast Canine, which is exactly why forty minutes isn’t the standard, and never will be. Most dogs need real time to settle into a strange set, and that’s more than fine. Their only job is to be a dog, however long that takes them to get there. I don’t run mini sessions. I build in the same time I always do, holiday setup or not.One of the Lucky 7 dogs, Guinness, stuck his head through a sheet of wrapping paper for the shot and just kept going, straight through it, paper everywhere. That’s the one that makes me laugh every time. ![]() Willow, my own dog, wore the hat, held every pose, and worked the whole set like she’d done it a hundred times. She has, more or less. She didn’t start out that way, a few years of sessions and a steady supply of treats got her here. Most dogs walking in for the first time aren’t going to be Willow, and that’s exactly as it should be. Hats, wreathes, string lights, steamer trunk, and a real tree. Every dog did it their own way. What comes out of it, more than anything, are cards. The kind that end up on someone’s fridge, or in a stack by the door, or taped to an office monitor in February because nobody could bear to take it down. Your dog, exactly themself, in a Santa hat they are clearly tolerating. ![]() Session fee is $290, same as always. Everything after that works the way it always has, starting with a quick call so I can learn about your dog, then the session, then the reveal, where you actually see the images before deciding what you want.I’ll start booking these the last week of September.
