A Photography Book Honoring Rescued Dogs and Their Stories

Some dogs carry stories shaped by resilience, patience, and the quiet love of the people who chose them.

This photography book project is centered on dogs who have been rescued, honoring who they are now and the lives they’ve gone on to build in their forever homes. Through thoughtful portraits and personal narratives, the goal is to preserve these stories and the meaningful ways they’ve shaped the families who love them.

This work is rooted in the belief that every dog’s story deserves to be seen and remembered.

What This Rescue Dog Photography Project Is

This project is a photography book project dedicated to rescued dogs living in their forever homes today. Each portrait focuses not only on where a dog came from, but on who they have become, their personality, and the bond and love they have with their new families.

The intention is to create a body of work that feels honest, timeless, and deeply human all while sharing the incredible difference that rescuing a dog makes in not only the dogs life, but of their human’s life as well.

One of our goals in our work is always looking for ways to give back, and this project is no different. We have partnered with A Place for Ace, a local dog rescue and part of all session fees, product sales and book sales will be donated to them to help them in the incredible work they do.

This photography book project is being created in Massachusetts and throughout New England.

Why This Project Exists

A few years ago, we welcomed a rescue dog into our lives after losing two family dogs who had been with us for many years. Throughout that experience, and working with countless rescued dogs over time, one thing became very clear and that is these stories of resilience, trust and love deserve to be shared.

This project is about honoring rescue dogs after they’ve been rescued. It offers a glimpse into the lives they’ve built and the ways they’ve changed their homes.

Each dog featured in the book will be given a two page spread, combining portraits with a narrative to honor who they are and the life they now live, all made possible through the power of rescue.

At it’s heart, this project exists to increase awareness of the work rescue organizations do and the lasting difference it can make.

How This Relates to My Photography Work

Much of my work centers on preserving the bond between people and the animals they love. I believe dogs are not simply pets, but an integral members of the family. Just as we honor other family members with photographs over time, our dogs deserved to be remembered and celebrated in the same way.

This project reflects the same philosophy that guides all of my sessions, that photographs can hold memory, meaning, and identity long after the experience has passed. They allow us to hold onto what feels ordinary now, but becomes deeply meaningful over time.

All portraits for this project are created using the same calm, unhurried approach I bring to every session, with the goal of creating authentic, soulful portraits that reflect who each dog is and the bond they share with their people. You can learn more about my process here.

The rescued dogs featured in this book remind us that choosing a rescue doesn’t just change a dog’s life, it changes ours as well.
